Controlled Burn At Cape Cod Home Destroys Shed, Damages Truck
A homeowner lost control of the permitted outdoor fire when the wind switched directions, officials said. No one was injured.
FALMOUTH, MA — A permitted fire at a Cape Cod home over the weekend led to lost cars, boat parts and a shed, as well as other damage, fire officials said.
Falmouth Fire and Rescue officials said a homeowner on Cloverfield Way in Hatchville "lost control of a permitted fire when the wind switched direction" on Sunday.
"Despite their best efforts to contain the fire, wind conditions pushed the fire into an area with multiple trees and heavy underbrush," officials said.

From that point, the fire spread quickly to a nearby storage shed containing automobile and boat parts, with gasoline and propane tanks stored near the shed, officials said.
The shed's contents were a total loss.

The fire also spread to a second temporary structure with a 37’ sailboat in winter storage. There was exterior damage to the sidewall and roof of the structure, but no damage to the sailboat. A nearby truck was also damaged.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
