FALMOUTH, MA — Falmouth firefighters helped Animal Control rescue a dog Saturday afternoon after it got its head stuck in a tire in a neighbor's backyard.

Animal Control was the first to arrive to try to free Bella the dog. Initial attempts to free her were unsuccessful, so the fire department was called to help. Fire officials determined the tire needed to be cut to free Bella, Animal Control officials said.

Firefighters draped a wet blanket over Bella and used a pneumatic abrasive wheel to cut the tire off the dog. Firefighters cut the rim "from lug nut to lug nut," fire officials said in a Facebook post. The dog and rim were cooled to prevent any injuries.
