Falmouth Patch Whiz Kid: Musician Jay Souweine

Falmouth High School senior has played taps at 350 funerals for veterans.

Accomplishment: Jay is the only instrumentalist to be accepted into the Massachusetts All State Music Festival from Cape Cod. He is also a member of the Southeastern Senior District Jazz Band and the All State Jazz Band.

Key to Awesomeness: At the age of 9 years, Jay became the youngest member of Bugles Across America, a nonprofit organization that provides live taps at veteran’s funerals. So far, Jay has played taps at the funerals of 350 veterans.

“Every veteran deserves live taps at his funeral,” said Jay. “It is my honor to play for them and it is an honor they deserve.” 

Some of Jay’s favorite trumpet players are Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Wynn Marsalis and Cape musicians Tony Lujan and Steve Edwards.
