This is Higgins' obituary, which was published Monday:
Owen O'Reily Higgins, "Higgy", 17, of Falmouth, born June 7, 1999, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 after a tragic car accident. Son of Michael P. Higgins of Rochester MA and the late Shannon Rouvalis. Owen resided with his beloved grandmother, Attorney Maureen "Kiki" O'Reilly and grandfather Georgie. He is survived by his big brothers, Michal and Daniel of Falmouth as well as his younger step-brother Mitchell of Rochester. As a product of both Irish Catholic families, Owen is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Owen was an outstanding athlete in youth hockey and little league baseball, as well as high school varsity hockey, football and baseball. As a result, most of Owen's life was spent on the playing field. Time spent on the playing field resulted in the establishment of deep lifelong friendships. Owen also excelled as a friend. His real talent was not athletics but rather his ability to share of himself with his many friends. He and his many friends "lit up life".
