Falmouth Teens Had Loaded Pistol, Pot In Van: Police

Falmouth police said officers founded a loaded pistol and marijuana in a van full of teenagers.

FALMOUTH, MA — Two Cape Cod teenagers were charged Tuesday after police said one had a loaded pistol and another had marijuana while driving around in a van on Teaticket Highway. Falmouth police Lieutenant Douglas DeCosta said an officer pulled over the van at about 10:10 p.m. for a traffic violation.

"During the stop one of the five occupants was reaching for or concealing something on the floor between the seats," DeCosta said in a statement. "As a result, the passenger was removed from the vehicle and a loaded pistol was found near the previous location of his feet."

The gun found is an IAG .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol, DeCosta said. A 16-year-old male from Bourne was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. The 19-year-old drive was charged with negligent driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, possessing an open container of marijuana in a vehicle and possessing under an ounce of marijuana. Massachusetts' new marijuana laws only allow those at least 21 years old to possess the drug.
