Falmouth's James Lavin, Owen Higgins: Community Raises $120K+
Falmouth star athletes James Lavin and Owen Higgins were killed in a crash as they drove home from hockey practice.
FALMOUTH, MA — The legacy of Falmouth High School star athletes James Lavin and Owen Higgins will live long into the future. The 17-year-olds, best friends since childhood, were killed in a crash on their way home from hockey practice on December 22.
Over $120,000 in donations have poured in for scholarships in their memory.
"It was a very tragic incident," Falmouth police Chief Edward Dunne said. "It's affected the whole community."

Lavin was "the best person we knew," his family said, and Higgins "lit up life," according to his.
Lavin and Higgins played football and in December they led Falmouth High School to a state title.

Classmates have held several memorial gatherings to honor the pair.
"The most important thing we can do for our children is be supportive," Falmouth schools Superintendent Nancy Taylor said.
