Friends, Family Remember Drowning Victim Dwayne Morris

Friend and family came together Friday morning at St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth to remember the life of Dwayne Morris, who drowned in Ashumet Pond on July 20, the Cape Cod Times reported. Burial followed at St. Anthony's Cemetery.

Morris, 43, was a life-long Falmouth resident and coached the girls basketball summer league team for Mashpee High School, the Times wrote. He also volunteered for a variety of different athletic programs for the Mashpee Recreation Department.

According to the obituary, Morris is survived by his two daughters and one son, his mother and his fianceé, brothers, sisters and many more family members.

In lieu of flowers, Morris' family suggests that donations be made in his memory to the Morris Children, c/o Racheal Perkins, 20 Bailey Dr., East Falmouth, Mass. 02536.

Morris' cause of death is still under investigation, the Times reported. Medical examiners want to rule out the possibility of a medical emergency or heart attack.

Mashpee Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Rullo told the Times that witnesses said they saw a man without a life jacket drown in the pond around 5:03 p.m.

According to state police, the man was trying to save another drowning swimmer when he, himself, drowned.
