Heavy Rains Caused Flooding Near Sagamore Bridge
Though the rain was certainly welcome amid severe drought, it also caused traffic delays on the Sagamore Bridge.

BOURNE, MA — Monday brought the first significant rainfall to Cape Cod in some time, which was surely a welcome sign for pretty much everyone except some drivers trying to get over the Sagamore Bridge.
The National Weather Service recorded .19 inches of rain in Barnstable on Monday amid a severe drought which is still causing water usage alterations and problems.
On Monday, at the base of the Sagamore Bridge, the problem was in fact that there was too much water.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the bridge at 2 p.m. for flooding on route 6 west of exit 55, finding significant flooding in the roadway, Lieutenant Paul Sullivan told Patch. One car was disabled in the flooding, he added.
By 3:40 p.m., officials had cleared the water, and cleanup was done by 5:15 p.m., when the road was opened again.

Capecod.com posted video from the base of the bridge courtesy of a Massachusetts Department of Transportation camera which showed puddling and slowed traffic on the bridge.
Another video from Satellite News Service, posted to YouTube, showed a car stranded on a flooded roadway in Bourne.
MassDOT cameras of the bridge from this morning show no signs of traffic backup or flooding, however.
