Kitchen Towel To Blame For Smoky Conditions At Cape Cod Apartment Complex

No one was injured in the fire, Cape Cod officials said.

FALMOUTH, MA — A burned kitchen towel was to blame for smoky conditions at a local apartment building.

Around 7 p.m. on Aug. 14, a call was received for a smoke condition at the Falmouth Housing Corporation’s apartment building at 704 Main St., fire officials said.

Firefighters located a light smoke condition on the third floor. The building was evacuated while the crew continued their investigation.

The smoke began to disperse, and a partially burned kitchen towel was located in an apartment unit. There was no fire damage, and the tenant had poured water on the towel.

The remaining smoke was vented from the building, and residents were permitted to return.

One resident from the apartment building was evaluated for a non-life-threatening medical emergency, not related to the smoke condition.
