Life Threatening Injuries Reported In Cape Cod Rail Trail Bike Accident

Two people were injured, including one person who was flown to Boston for treatment.

HARWICH, MA — A bicycle accident resulted in life-threatening injuries for one person in Harwich on Sept. 10.

Fire officials in Harwich said the accident happened on the Cape Cod Rail Trail in the area of 522 Pleasant Lake Ave. Two people were injured, including one whose injuries were life-threatening.

Both were taken to area medical facilities.

Officials said the communications center at the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office received a report of the accident around 10:35 a.m. that morning.

A full department recall was transmitted, and Boston Medflight was requested. A mutual aid engine from Brewster Fire also responded to assist at the scene.

Harwich Fire also responded to personnel to secure the landing zone at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School for the medflight.

One patient was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by Harwich Fire with non-life-threatening injuries, and Boston Medflight transported one patient to Mass General with life-threatening injuries.
