Military Shell Found In Cape Cod Bay Detonated
A fisherman netted a military shell in Cape Cod Bay near Orleans.

ORLEANS, MA — An unexploded military shell was found in Cape Cod Bay Wednesday morning, according to police. The roughly six-foot shell was caught in a fisherman's net at about 10:30 a.m. The shell was brought to Rock Harbor, where State Police and Navy bomb squads detonated it as a precaution.

Police speculated the shell may have come from the SS James Longstreet, a defunct Navy vessel that was used as target practice for decades in Cape Cod Bay.
