Outer Cape Health Services Expands Access To Care For Summer
The health center is preparing for a surge of additional people ahead of the summer season. Here's how they plan to help.
CAPE COD, MA — As the summer season approaches and Cape Cod communities prepare for an annual surge in visitors, Outer Cape Health Services has walk-in care available across its three health center locations in Provincetown, Wellfleet and Harwich Port.
Access to care is critical during the summer months, when Provincetown and surrounding communities see a surge in residents, seasonal workers and visitors — and a corresponding rise in minor injuries and health concerns.
“We treat a range of injuries and illnesses, from sunburns and respiratory issues to bike accidents and dog bites, particularly in Provincetown,” said Heather Duncan, Physician Assistant at the OCHS Provincetown Health Center. “With crowded streets, protective gear including helmets is crucial for bike riders. Another issue we see on a weekly basis is dog bites. Considering Provincetown’s dog-friendly environment, many residents and visitors are out with their pets, and in busy areas, dogs can easily become overexcited.”

Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and same-day appointments may also be available.
“Walk-in care is just one part of how we support the Outer Cape during the busy summer months,” said Dr. Marie Constant, Chief Medical Officer at Outer Cape Health Services. “It plays an important role in helping us manage seasonal demand, offering a reliable option for care when patients might otherwise delay treatment or face long waits elsewhere.”
In addition to walk-in services, OCHS offers comprehensive primary care, behavioral health services, sexual health and HIV support, as well as assistance with health insurance enrollment.
