Structure Fire Closes Falmouth Road During Fire Fight

Damage to the residence was "moderate," but no injuries were reported, officials said.

FALMOUTH, MA — A structure fire closed Sandwich Road for a period on Sunday night, officials said.

The Falmouth Fire and Rescue Department was called to the fire after 6 p.m. on Sunday in the 700 block of Sandwich Road.

"A neighbor called to report the fire and stated that there were flames visible on the outside of the house," officials said.

Engine 20, upon arrival from Hatchville Station 6, confirmed an active fire on the outside corner of a single-story ranch-style home with a walkout basement, officials said.

Command requested an upgrade on the call to a working fire assignment, bringing additional resources to the scene along with mutual aid coverage to our stations, to cover other calls for service.

The exterior fire was knocked down, and primary and secondary searches of the building were completed. The fire had spread to the attic, requiring a "significant amount of work to ensure it was extinguished," officials said.

Fire crews remained on location until about 8:40 pm. Sandwich Road in the area of the fire was closed while fire crews were on scene.

Damage to the structure was moderate, and no injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation by Falmouth Fire Rescue’s Fire Investigation Unit.
