SWAT Incident At Wareham Motel: Suspect Detained
Police took a suspect into custody at the Silver Lake Motel in Wareham.

WAREHAM, MA — A man allegedly in distress who made threats to harm himself at a Wareham motel Tuesday morning was taken into custody by a SWAT team, officials said. The incident happened at the Silver Lake Motel at about 7 a.m., according to Wareham police Chief Kevin Walsh. The suspect, a 36-year-old Raynham man, was not immediately charged with any crimes.
In a statement, Walsh said police were called to the motel after the suspect allegedly barricaded himself inside.
"(The suspect) allegedly made threats to harm himself and said he had a weapon," Walsh said.

The Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT team and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene to assist.
"Those staying in surrounding motel rooms were evacuated," Walsh said. "After efforts to deescalate the situation, at approximately 9:30 a.m., the SEMLEC officers made forced entry to the motel room and placed the man in custody. The man suffered minor injuries when he was subdued by a K-9."

No weapon was found. The suspect was taken to Tobey Hospital for an evaluation.
"The matter remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time," Walsh said. "Because he has not been charged with a crime, his name will not be released."
Walsh added, “I’m proud of the job done by our Wareham officers, SEMLEC and the State Police today. Thankfully they were able to resolve this situation peacefully and safely.”
