Town Officials To Decide Fate of Nimrod Restaurant Today

The Falmouth Historic Committee is meeting Wednesday night at 7 p.m. to discuss the fate of the historic Nimrod Restaurant, the Falmouth Enterprise reported.

The committee will listen to James E. Fox, of Kinlin Grover Real Estate, who will request to waive the six-month waiting regulation for demolitions of "historically significant" buildings. Fox is a representative for North Falmouth resident Warren Dalton, who wants to buy and demolish the restaurant to build an apartment complex.

The now-closed restaurant is famous for the cannonball which was lodged in its wall during the British Warship Nimrod’s attacked Falmouth on Jan. 28, 1814.

According to the Enterprise, the six-month delay regulation is intended to give any interested parties an opportunity to purchase and save a historic property. But since last month’s hearing, no one has come forward and expressed an interest in the Nimrod, Fox told the newspaper.
