West Nile Virus Found Again In Cape Cod Mosquitoes
It's the fourth positive mosquito sample in this Cape Cod town in 2025, officials said.
FALMOUTH, MA — The Falmouth Health Department is again sharing that mosquitoes tested in the town have been found positive for West Nile Virus.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that West Nile Virus has been detected in two mosquito samples collected from Falmouth on Aug. 19. These tests were gathered from sampling locations in the vicinity of Siders Pond and Woods Hole Road.
The Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project collects routine mosquito samples as part of MDPH’s surveillance program for mosquito-borne diseases, officials said.

The last positive WNV mosquito sample detected in Falmouth was July 29 from a sample taken off of Woods Hole Road. There have been four positive WNV mosquito samples detected in Falmouth this year.
No human cases have been detected.

"The Falmouth Health Department will continue to work closely with the MDPH and the Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project (CCMCP) on mosquito control efforts," officials said.
The location of the positive sample is routinely treated by the CCMCP and will continue to be an area of focus throughout the mosquito season, they added.
