1 Hurt in Shooting Near Boston's Northeastern University

Police are investigating a shooting on Huntington Avenue near Northeastern University in Boston.

A male victim was injured in the shooting Tuesday afternoon, Boston Police officials say.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment via Boston EMS.

The incident unfolded in the area 319 Huntington Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate the shooting was isolated and the victim was likely targeted, police say.

A suspect has not been identified. The investigation is active and ongoing at this time.

Northeastern released the following statement regarding the incident:

“Late this afternoon, an isolated shooting took place on Huntington Avenue near Gainsborough Street. Neither the victim nor the suspects are believed to have any connection with the university, and there is no imminent threat to the Northeastern community. The university notified the campus immediately and urged people to avoid the area. Northeastern Police are coordinating with Boston Police in responding to the incident.”
