Given the recent horror story at , let's take a moment to reflect on rat related encounters and experiences we’ve had in Boston.
This didn't take place in the Fenway/Kenmore area, but when I lived in my first apartment during my college years, there was a rat with a piece of his ear missing who roamed by the Dumpster. We named him Old Scratch after a Washington Irving character from a story I had read in high school. He was a survivor. Other rats were killed off by poison or traps, but not Old Scratch. He outsmarted everyone and lived like a king in our back alleyway, which was fine with me as long as we respected eachothers territory.
One night, I came home after work and walked up to my front door only to be confronted by Old Scratch. I had him cornered between the front door and the front walkway. He hissed at me, as if to say: “What are you looking at, punk?” I back peddled and let him go by without any trouble.
