Canestaro Restaurant Looking to Stay in Fenway

The owner of the Peterborough Street Italian restaurant needs to move his restaurant from its current space due to the construction of new apartments.

The owners of Fenway neighborhood's Italian restaurant mainstay, Canestaro, are looking to keep the restaurant in the Fenway neighborhood despite its current location closing to make way for a new apartment buildling.

“We’re not going away,” restaurant owner Stephen Canestaro told the Boston Globe. "We want to stay in the neighborhood so we can continue to serve our neighbors and friends."

The restaurant, located at 16 Peterborough Street, is housed within a building that will soon be demolished to make way for a five-story, 20-unit residential building and a parking lot.

However, Canestaro said he hasn't yet found a place to move, although he is "activitely looking," according to the Globe.

The new 27,000 square foot building will feature four two-bedroom units on all five floors for a total of 20 as well as an office/accessory use on the first floor. Three of the units will be affordable. The owner and developer of the site is Yannis Leminopoulos of Needham, and the architect on the project is Lucio Trabucco of Nunes Trabucco Architects.
