Dorchester Man Charged with Possession of Crack on Gainsborough Street

A traffic stop for a suspended license lead to the arrest of a Dorchester man for possession of crack cocaine on Gainsborough Street on Tuesday night. 

Boston Police officers were driving on Huntington Avenue at 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday when they observed a grey Infiniti with expired Massachusetts plates, police said. 

Upon pulling the vehicle over, officers ran the suspect’s license, which came back as “suspended.” While speaking to the suspect, one officer observed something in his mouth. The officer demanded that the suspect spit out whatever was in his mouth, which the suspect then tried to swallow, police said. The officer put his hand under the suspects’ jaw in order to prevent him from swallowing something harmful or destroying evidence, according to the report.

After a brief struggle, the suspect spat out three clear plastic bags, each containing what appeared to be crack, police said. 

Torey Mercer of 14 Centerville Park, Dorchester was arrested and charged with operating an unregistered vehicle, operating an uninsured vehicle, possession of a Class B substance, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute and resisting arrest.
