Things to Know in Fenway-Kenmore Today, Jan. 31: Muddy River Public Meeting

Here's what's happening in the neighborhood today.

1. Weather: The National Weather Service is predicting a cloudy day with a high of 43 degrees and a possible thunderstorm in the morning. Winds will be strong, at 22-28 mph, and could reach gusts of 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. 

2. Muddy River Public Meeting: At this informational meeting, Mike Keegan, Project Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will provide a brief overview of the Muddy River Project, discuss construction-related impacts, including traffic management, and present the activities that will occur in the next 90-days as well as how the public can learn about the upcoming activities. The meeting will include both a presentation and an opportunity for the public to ask questions about the project. 3. Transfigured Night: Tonight at 8 p.m., the New England Conservatory presents Transfigured Night at NEC's Jordan Hall (30 Gainsborough St.), an "epic half-hour of unprecedented sounds" composed by Arnold Schoenberg and performed by the NEC Contemporary Ensemble. See here for more information.

4. Art at Wheelock: Stop by Wheelock today from 1-5 p.m. to see an exhibition of Shirl Fink's digital image and Jim Wright's sculpture artwork. Shirl Fink will be showing a series of digital images based on still-life configurations that are her latest work in a long studio career that has transitioned in processes from fiber techniques, mixed media and painting.  Jim Wright will be showing sculptures that are informed by his background in figure painting and portraiture. 5. Ice skating: The Boston Common Frog Pond is open daily for public ice skating throughout the season. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $5 for ages 14 and up and free for ages 13 and under. Skate rentals cost $5 for kids and $9 for adults.
