5 Things for Oct. 3: Students Walk to School, Presidential Debate, Live Music and More

Here's five things you need to know today in Foxborough: NWS calls for cloudy with a chance of showers Wednesday, elementary students walk to school and live music at Showcase Live and Tastings.

1. Cloudy with a Chance of Showers Wednesday in Foxborough

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for isolated showers. Patchy fog before 11 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 72. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent. Wednesday night: Scattered showers, mainly after 11 p.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 61. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

2. Foxborough to Participate in International Walk to School Day Today

Students and their families will be walking to school along with parents, teachers, YMCA staff and community leaders. Families are encouraged to walk from home if they reside one mile from school, or make plans to walk from a friend or neighbor’s house. The Hockomock Area YMCA and school officials have also designated specific meeting locations throughout the town for families to meet at and continue the walk to school which ranges from 3/4 mile to 1 1/4 mile.

Walk to school events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

The event has been organized by the Hockomock Area YMCA, PTO groups, Safe Routes to School Committees, and Healthy Futures Task Force members. 

In Foxborough, Igo School students will walk from the Booth playground at 7:30 a.m. Burrell and Taylor Schools will also be participating in the event.

3. Obama and Romney Debate at University of Denver

President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will meet in the first Presidential Debate Tuesday at the University of Denver. The debate will focus on domestic policy, beginning at 9 p.m. and last until 10:30 p.m. Each debate will be broadcast live on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as all cable news channels including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. 4. Warriors Game Day:

The following Foxborough High School teams will be in action Wednesday:

  • Boys’ soccer travels to Franklin for a 3:30 p.m. match
  • Girls’ soccer hosts Franklin at 3:30 p.m.
  • Boys’ golf travels to Canton for a 3:30 p.m. match
  • Girls’ volleyball travels to Sharon for a 4:45 p.m. match
  • Field hockey hosts Franklin at 3:30 p.m.

5. Patriot Place Events:

  • 3 to 4 p.m. - Kidville Krafts: Join Kidville for crafts and discounted playspace rates.
  • 7 to 10 p.m. - Live Music at Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro: Welcome Sara Thompson to the Tastings' Music Series stage.
  • 7:30 p.m. - Little River Band performs at Showcase Live: Little River Band was the first Australian band to successfully conquer foreign markets from an Australian base.
