Bettor Takes Huge Loss As Patriots Fall To Underdog Dolphins

If losing $74,000 sounds bad, just wait until you see how much it would have won had the Patriots not suffered the biggest upset since 1995.

It was a bad day to be a Patriot and and a frustrating day to be a Patriots fan. But it was a truly awful day to be a Patriots bettor.

New England's stunning 27-24 defeat to the Dolphins cost one bettor $74,430. The person would have only netted $4,651.85 if the Patriots won, according to Darren Rovell.

The person bet the moneyline, meaning it didn't take into account the 17.5 points the Patriots were favored by, so all that New England had to do was squeak by the visiting underdogs. The Patriots' odds were -1600, meaning they were such heavy favorites that you would need to bet $1,600 to win $100.

The 17.5-point spread meant the Dolphins pulled off the biggest upset since 1995, according to Rovell.
