Firefly Yoga Offers Unique Experience that Caters to All

Firefly Yoga, which offers a variety of yoga, pilates and suspension training classes, opened at 121 Main St. on March 11.

Foxborough residents looking to relax the mind, calm the body and soothe the soul through yoga haven’t had many local options until now.

Firefly Yoga recently opened at 121 Main St. in hopes of becoming an active part of the community by offering a unique practice in an underserved market.

“We wanted to stay in the local community and be a part of it,” said Firefly Yoga General Manager Lou Argenzio. “It’s important to us to bring a really welcoming and clean type of hot yoga to the community. Provide a very comfortable place for people to practice.”

The Foxborough yoga studio is just the second Firefly facility in Massachusetts. Owners opened a studio in Westwood earlier this year.

Argenzio says Firefly caters to all levels of yoga participants - from beginners to those with years of experience.

“We offer Firefly Yoga fundamentals, which is a great way for beginners to come in and experience the heat of a hot class and also learning the poses,” Argenzio said. “The rest of our classes are for all levels. We have people who have taken a handful of classes practicing with someone who’s experienced. Teachers will make modifications and make adjustments to cater to all levels.”

The main style of yoga offered at Firefly is Vinyasa Flow, which focuses on fluidly synchronizing breathing with movement from one pose to the next. Firefly also offers pilates, TRX suspension training and much more.

“We have a really good variety of classes,” Argenzio said.

The studio currently employs seven instructors teaching about 22 classes. In April, the number of courses is expected to increase to 25.

"We’ve been able to put together an amazing team of instructors," said Argenzio. "We are really excited about the group we have. ... We will grow the weekend schedule. Scheduling will be flexible and based on demand."

The general manager said one thing that makes Firefly unique is that it focuses on the convenience of its clients.

“The way we are set up is you can go right on our website and create your own profile and sign up for classes and purchase packages and do everything from the website,” Argenzio said. “If people want to stop in or give us a call we can help them out that way as well. It’s convenient that people can do everything from home and then just show up for class.”

In addition to the variety of workouts, Argenzio said the studio is unique in itself because it was built using environmentally sensitive, recycled products and materials from renewable resources.

“We did pay special attention to being a green facility,” Argenzio said. “Our flooring is recycled material, the drywall is recycled materials and in the yoga studio we have LED lighting. We really wanted to keep our carbon footprint low.”

Firefly also paid special attention to the studio’s rooms with the type of flooring and heat used.

“We are really trying to provide a comfortable studio that feels great when you’re in there,” Argenzio said. … “We have a zebra floor so it is a padded flooring that is easy on the knees and adds to the comfort level of the studio.”

Argenzio said Firefly Yoga came to be as a result of a slipped disc in the back of one of the studio’s owners.

“[Business] started with one of the owners having a back issue and yoga having an amazing effect on him,” Argenzio said. “He had a slipped disc in his back and yoga really had an amazing effect on his rehabilitation. [The owners] were really kind of amazed by the effect it can have on the body.”

It’s a testimony Argenzio has heard often since getting involved in the yoga industry.

“The majority of the people we’ve met in the yoga business have shared their stories on how it has had a profound effect on their lives and it is very calm,” Argenzio said. “I’ve been in the health and fitness industry for about 15 years. Mostly on personal training and with yoga instructors and people who practice frequently there’s this common theme on how it has really helped them in their lives.”

Argenzio said he believes yoga is a practice that “can really benefit a lot of people.”

“It’s more than just helping people become more flexible,” Argenzio said. “That 75 or 90 minutes of just thinking about your movement and ignoring everything else really is amazing for your body and state of mind.”

Firefly's management team said it's “excited to bring something new” to Foxborough and become active members in the community.

“It’s important to us to be part of the community and support local events,” Argenzio said. “As far as getting our name out in the community we would rather donate to local sports teams and find ways to give back to the community rather than advertise.”
