From London to Foxborough – Patriots Sign Olympic Sprinter Jeff Demps

Jeff Demps is taking his Olympic track speed from London to the gridiron in Foxborough.

The New England Patriots officially announced the signing of Demps, a member of the 2012 US Olympic roster and 4x100 meter relay team that won a silver medal in London, according to a press release issued by the team.

Friday night's announcement confirmed multiple reports that surfaced earlier in the day regarding the addition of the rookie free agent running back.

In addition to Demps Olympic success in track, the 22-year-old played in 51 games with 27 starts during his college career at Florida, according to the press release.

The 5-foot-7, 191-pounder finished his career with 367 rushing attempts for 2,470 yards for 6.7-yard average with 23 rushing touchdowns. He also returned 21 kickoffs for 604 yards and one touchdown. Demps was also a standout sprinter for the Florida track team and is the only Florida athlete to have won a national championship in two sports with his 2009 football national championship and multiple indoor and outdoor tack titles over his four year.

Terms of Demps' contract were not announced, the press release said.
