Meet Marley: Foxborough’s Drug-Sniffing K-9 Led Police to Cocaine Trafficking Bust

The Yellow Labrador starred in Thursday's large cocaine bust in Foxborough following a motor vehicle stop on Oak Street.

Foxborough police are calling him the “star of [Thursday’s] show” after sniffing out 119 grams of cocaine during a motor vehicle stop on Oak Street.

Meet Marley, Foxborough’s drug-sniffing K-9 that led police to the massive cocaine trafficking bust Thursday afternoon. The four-year-old yellow Labrador scanned a motor vehicle stopped by Sgt. John Chamberlin on Oak Street near Mechanic Street, notifying police that narcotics were present.

“Upon contact with the operator, Sgt. Chamberlin found the operator to be using a fake Puerto Rican driver’s license. He also observed numerous other criminal indicators in the vehicle,” police said in a press release Friday.

Police say Marley alerted Sgt. Chamberlin to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle following a K-9 scan, resulting in the discovery of an electronic hide in the vehicle, according to police.

“This hide was opened and it contained [119] grams of cocaine,” police said. “Also found was $2,000 cash on the operator.”

Jose Billar, 50, of Providence was arrested on the following charges as a result of Marley and Sgt. Chamberlin’s police work:

  • Drug Trafficking over 100 grams
  • RMV False Document
  • Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Window Tint Violation
  • False Name - arrestee furnish

The FBI databases also showed Billar had previously been deported from the United States on at least one prior occasion for his direct involvement in cocaine trafficking several years ago, according to police.

Billar was arraigned in Wrentham District Court Friday.

Marley has been sniffing out crime with the Foxborough Police Department since September 2010.
