Stoughton High Baseball Team Blanks Foxborough

The Foxborough High baseball team can qualify for the Division 3 state tournament with a win over Canton Wednesday,

Led by two first inning runs, the Stoughton High baseball team beat visiting Foxborough, 4-0, Monday afternoon.

Foxborough was held without a hit for the first 4 and 1/3 innings as Stoughton Pitcher Mike Gallegher turned in another solid effort for the Black Knights.

"He doesn't do anything flashy, but he goes at guys; he works fast; he gets himself in a good tempo. He has control of the strike zone and kept us off balance a little bit," Foxborough coach Billy Sittig said.

Foxborough's Mike Slaby broke up the no-hitter with one out in the fifth and singled again in the seventh off reliever Mike Dixon, but the Foxborough bats were otherwise quiet.

Stoughton scored twice in the first and once each in the second and fourth innings to pick up the win.

"I thought our pitching was fine," Sittig said. They had two balls that got to the outfield [all game]...can't fault the pitching."

The Warriors fall to 4-10, but still remain eligible for postseason play, needing to finish at least .500 against Division 3 opponents (Sullivan Rule). If Foxborough beats Canton on Wednesday, the team clinches a spot in the state tournament.
