UPDATED: 2016 Team Framingham Boston Marathon Runners Picked

Each of the 22 individuals must fundraise a minimum of $1,500 for one of 6 Framingham non profit organizations.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The Team Framingham 2016 random selection was held this evening in the Ablondi Room of Town Hall.

The 22 runners who will represent Team Framingham in the 2016 Boston Marathon were selected from a pool of 84 applicants.

Following the random selection, Assistant Town Manager Jim Duane and Board of Selectmen Vice Chair Mike Bower this evening announced the runners who will comprise Team Framingham 2016 as follows:

Representatives from five of the six charitable organizations for whom Team Framingham 2016 will be fundraising for were in attendance and they spoke about their organizations.

Mark Goldschmidt from Resiliency for Life, Ellie Ainbinder from Art beCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation, Tasha Bjork from Voices Against Violence, Carol Phalen from the Framingham High School Foundation and Annie Murphy from the Framingham History Center all spoke.

Selectman Mike Bower spoke of the history of Team Framingham formed in the fall of 2013 following the Boston Marathon bombing under the leadership of Selectman Chair Dennis Giombetti and the members of the Board of Selectmen.

“The Team Framingham Boston Marathon program has been a huge success these past two years. Our Team Framingham runners have raised more than $113,000 for local charities. 46 of our 47 Team Framingham runners have successfully completed the grueling 26.2 mile Boston Marathon course. We expect a high level of interest in the community and among town employees for a coveted invitational entry for the 2016 Boston Marathon” said Bower.

Michael Cannon Associates has signed on as a premier corporate sponsor for Team Framingham 2016.

Additional sponsors for this year’s program are still needed.

Corporate sponsors subsidize the cost of busing to the start of the Boston Marathon for the runners as well as busing for various team training runs.

The first Team Framingham 2016 team meeting will be held on Thursday Jan. 7, 2016 where the Boston Marathon invitational entries will be distributed and the team will hear from the marathon training mentors from the Greater Framingham Running Club and from the charity representatives from Art beCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation and one other charity.

Team Framingham 2016 runners will be receiving the following documents by Wednesday, December 9:

 Team Update # 1 – Information for the team on training and fundraising.

 Waiver Form – Waiver to be signed before the entry is distributed.

 Charity Preference Form – Choose your preferred charity; due December 18.

The fundraising requirement for this year remains a minimum $1,500 for one of the following six organizations, with a fundraising target of $ 2,500:

  • Art beCAUSE Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Framingham High School Foundation
  • Framingham History Center
  • Friends of the Callahan Senior Center
  • Resiliency for Life
  • Voices Against Violence
