5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: September 23

Today is the first day of autumn. Framingham Public Schools are closed today, due to the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

1. Welcome Autumn! Today officially marks the start of this season and ends summer.

2. The Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur began at sundown yesterday. The holiest day in Juadism continues today. Framingham Public Schools are closed today in observance. Framingham Town Hall and other public building in the community are open.

3. Access Framingham, with Vital Signs Video of Framingham, is hosting a one-night 2-hour workshop on Go Pro cameras. The class starts at 7 p.m. and space is limited. Fee is $10 per person and $5 for AF-TV members. Click here for more details.

4. Framingham State University’s Whittemore Library and Framingham Public Library is co-sponsoring a free lecture by author Jennifer De Leon tonight at the main Framingham Library at 7. DeLeon is the author Wise Latinas – Writers on Higher Education The book is a collection of personal essays addressing the varied landscape of the Latina experience in higher education. For some Latinas, college, where they are vastly underrepresented, is the first time they are immersed in American culture outside their homes—and where the values of the two cultures often clash. This book is in part a response to this widening gap.

5. Framingham High sports teams are not in action, as there is no school. However, Marian High sports teams are in action.
