AAA: Gas Prices Lowest Since Spring 2009

Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are down two cents from last week, are at the lowest point of the year and the lowest locally since the spring of 2009, according to AAA Northeast, which has an office in Framingham, off Route 9.

The continuing drop in crude oil prices and strong supplies are the primary drivers of these lower prices, AAA said, in a press release.

AAA’s Dec. 14 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.04 per gallon, down two cents from last week. Prices locally are four cents less than a month ago. The current price is three cents more than the national average for self-serve unleaded of $2.01. A year ago at this time the Massachusetts average price was 64 cents higher at $2.68.

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 57 cents, from a low of $1.92 to a high of $2.49. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area, and to make sure they and their passengers buckle up — every trip, every time.
