Bison Score 101 Points To Defeat Rams

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Junior Irving Eggleston led five Bison in double figures as Nichols College defeated the Framingham State University men’s basketball team 101-55 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Bison close the first half of the season at 7-2, while the loss drops the Rams to 2-7.

The Rams jumped out to 15-8 lead on a bucket in the paint from sophomore Tony Alexandre just over four minutes into the game, but the Bison countered with 21-0 run over the next 10 minutes fueled by 10 points from junior Irving Eggleston (East Lyme, Con.) to take the lead for good. The Bison extended the lead to as many as 23 down the stretch in the first half, but a jumper from junior Tim Mangano in the waning second closed the gap to 47-28 at the break. Nichols opened the second half with a quick 7-1 spurt and maintained a large advantage throughout the frame.

Eggleston led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-13 from the floor to go along with six boards. Senior Gustave Koumare chipped in 15 points and eight boards, while freshman Marcos Echevarria and junior Brandon Marshall contributed 12 points apiece. Junior Nate Tardy came off the bench to tally 11 points for the visitors who eclipsed the 100 point mark for the third time this season.

The Rams were led by eight points apiece from Mangano and Alexandre. Mangano grabbed a game-high nine boards and knocked down a pair of threes, while Alexandre connected on 4-of-4 from the floor in route to his eight. Junior Daniel Gould chipped in with seven points, while seniors Jacek Louisville and Tim McCarthy added six apiece.

The Rams are back in action on Jan. 1st and 2nd at Johns Hopkins.
