Community Invited to Attend Framingham State's Winter Chorus Concert

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The public is invited to a special free concert performed by the Framingham State University Chorus on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Heineman Ecumenical Center.

The theme of the concert is A Baroque Christmas and will feature the music of Dietrich Buxtehude, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and 17th-century Christmas carols. The chorus, under the direction of Dr. Paul Cienniwa, includes students and alumni from the university as well as area community members.

The centerpiece of the program, Charpentier’s Messe de minuit pour Noël, is a Latin Mass setting based on French carols from the composer’s 17th-century France.

“Even though many of Charpentier’s French carols are unknown today, they joyfully represent the spirit of the season,” says Cienniwa. “We will introduce the Mass movements with the carols that inspired their composition, making this a very festive concert!”

The program will also include Buxtehude’s In dulci jubilo, a German/Latin motet based on the well-known carol. The concert soloists include FSU students and alumni Patricia Berlandi, ‘70, G’85, Inessa Burnell, ‘19, Samuel McGuire, ‘17, Cynthia Nelson, ‘17, Jesse Sannicandro, ‘16; and community members Mary Collins, Doug Miller, Vanessa Pendexter, Edward Sawyer.
