Flyers Earn 10th Win of Season With 6-1 Victory Over Rockets

Next up for the Framingham High boys ice hockey team is a road game against Braintree on Wednesday. It will be a battle for first place.

WELLESLEY, MA - The Framingham Flyers boys hockey team toppled Needham 6-1 Saturday night at Babson College.

The win improves the Flyers to 10-1-4, under head coach Paul Spear.

The Flyers dominated the first period of play from the drop of the puck with several scoring opportunities.

The Flyers finally struck with 5:31 left in the opening period and then the flood gates blew open.

Tyler Anes tipped home a shot from the point to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.

The Flyers struck again at the 3:14 minute mark with Anes putting home a rebound of a Ryan Innis shot.

Thirty seconds later Austan Bellefeuille came rushing down the wing and fed Ben Stefanini who deked the Needham goalie for a 3-0 lead.

The Flyers weren’t done.

Anes chipped up puck up the sideboards to Scott Swennes. He bolted down the left wing and threw a shot at the net that bounced out to linemate Nate Nichols who put the rebound home to make it 4-0.

With 5:24 left in the second period the Flyers extended the lead on Dylan Carifiello’s first varsity goal.

Scott Hall carried the puck down the left wing into the Rocket zone and hit a streaking Carifiello going hard to the net for a tip in goal behind the Needham goalie to make it 5-0. Jamie Brigham assisted on the goal.

Needham cut the Flyer lead late in the middle period to 5-1 with a late period goal.

The Flyers extended their lead to 6-1 with 10 minutes left in the final period when Jamie Brigham tipped a Ben Stefanini shot past the Needham goalie on the power play. Tyler Anes assisted on the goal.

Owen Parker got the win between the pipes for the Flyers, making a number of big saves in third period.

The Flyers play at Braintree Wednesday night in a game for first place against the 10-1-2 Wamps.
