Flyers Finish 7th in States; Groleau has 11th Best 1000M Time in Nation [Video]

Framingham High's indoor boys track team had its best finish ever at the Eastern Ma Division 1 Championship on Sunday, said head coach Chris Collins.

"The Flyers placed 7th overall at the Eastern MA Division 1 Championships today," said Collins.

Senior captain Ben Groleau won the 1,000-meter race, breaking his own school record with a time of 2:30.10, said Collins. It was the fourth fastest time in Massachusetts this season, according to www.atheltic.net. And according to the announcer at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Groleau's time was the 11th best time in the nation.

Groleau will compete in the All-States meet Sunday.

Senior captain Bo Lewis placed fourth in the 300-meter race, with a time of 36.03. Lewis will move on to the All-States next Sunday, too.
 
Senior captain Jake Devlin jumped 6'4" in the high jump, placing second overall and setting a personal record (He was a 5'10" jumper last season at this time.). He also qualified for the All-States meet.
 
Senior captain Jesse Wing ran a 8.17 after he caught a hurdle hard, and did not place unfortunately, finishing just out of the running in ninth place overall, said Collins.

Wing will lead the Framingham Flyers in the State Team Pentathlon a week from Tuesday, and could set the Framingham school record for that event, said Collins.

Wing will be joined by sophomore Manuel Kalamu and junior Matt Cronin at the Pentathlon.

Groleau, Lewis and Devlin also all qualified for the nationals in New York City in March, said Collins.
