Former Framingham High VP Named Interim Athletic Director

Framingham Public Schools named an interim athletic director for the 2015-16 school year.

Ronald Sudmyer was announced as the new interim athletic director to replace Gary Doherty, in a newsletter sent to Framingham High parents on Sunday.

Sudmyer worked at Framingham High for more than three decades.

He taught history for 25 years and served as a vice principal at the high school for another decade.

“Obviously, he is very familiar with the building and the community, which makes him ideally suited to quickly and effectively provide leadership from the Athletic Director position,” stated the newsletter. ”Sudmyer is committed to continuing to build great connections with many faculty members, students and families in Framingham. His strength is instructional leadership, which he hopes to bring to the role of Interim Athletic Director.

The newsletter said Sudmyer said he “can help stabilize the athletic department and work to organize it so that the [eventual] incoming AD is in excellent shape. [He] also believes we can establish a vision of excellence to motivate coaches and student athletes to take the program to a higher level.”

The newsletter states Sudmyer has begun the process of researching neighboring schools’ athletic handbooks and has contacted other athletic directors to help make policies.

Sudmyer has officiated football, basketball and baseball games in the Bay State Conference for more than 30 years.

“Once again, we feel very lucky to have found someone with Mr. Sudmyer’s skill set and experience to help
usher Framingham High School athletics into a new, exciting era,” states the newsletter to parents, faculty, and staff.

Framingham Patch broke the news in August that Doherty would no longer be athletic director at the high school. Students started the school year and the fall season without an athletic director.
