Framingham Celebrates The Birthday Of The U.S. Army

The U.S. Army turned 243 years old on Thursday.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—To mark the anniversary of the founding of the U.S Army, Framingham celebrated the 243rd birthday of the United States Army in Nevins Hall on Thursday.

Officials were joined by some representatives from the Framingham Recruiting Station and Veterans Services as the city honored the birthday of this branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Special guest Barbara Collins was invited to cut the cake.

According to history.com, the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, formed the Continental Army as a means for the 13 unified American colonies to fight the forces of Britain. George Washington was unanimously elected Commander-In-Chief of the fledgling Army. Washington, of course, led the colonies to victory.
