Framingham Closes Beach After Positive E. Coli Test
Two other city beaches remain open after passing recent water quality tests, officials said.
FRAMINGHAM, MA — A Framingham beach is closed for swimming after its water tested positive for E. coli.
Lake Waushakum Beach is closed for swimming effective immediately. The beach will remain closed until further notice, pending additional testing, scheduled for Wednesday.
"The City is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors. E. coli bacteria, which can cause gastrointestinal illnesses, can be harmful if swallowed," city officials said, in a statement.

Symptoms from ingesting contaminated water may include diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting.
"For this reason, swimming or ingesting water from affected areas is strongly discouraged until the water quality has been deemed safe," officials said.

In the city, Saxonville Beach and Learned Pond Beach both passed recent water quality tests and will remain open for use, officials said. Both beaches are considered safe for swimming and recreation.
