FRAMINGHAM, MA — The City of Framingham and the Friends of the Callahan Center will host a dedication ceremony on Tuesday to name the multipurpose room in the Callahan Center in honor of the late Mark Goldman.

City officials described Goldman as "a devoted public servant, passionate community advocate, and tireless volunteer whose decades of service left a lasting mark on Framingham."

Mayor Charlie Sisitsky requested the naming earlier this year, noting Goldman’s remarkable contributions to the city, especially in youth sports and senior services.

Goldman’s family, the Framingham Council on Aging and the Friends of the Callahan Center all wrote letters in support of the naming.

At the time of his passing on Sept. 12, 2021, at the age of 74, Goldman was serving as President of the Friends of the Callahan Center and Vice Chair of the Framingham Council on Aging.

"His advocacy helped shape programs and services that have made the Callahan Center a vital resource for the city’s seniors," city officials said.

Over the decades, Goldman’s dedication spanned from leading youth sports initiatives, including being instrumental in creating the “Field of Dreams Soccer Complex” and advocating for girls’ soccer, to serving on the Framingham Parks & Recreation Commission, where he contributed to projects like Cushing Memorial Park.

In his later years, he turned his energy toward supporting seniors, raising funds to improve facilities, enhance programs, and expand offerings such as the Continuing Connections program for residents with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease and their care partners.

“Mark’s leadership, kindness, and selflessness touched the lives of so many in Framingham,” said Sisitsky. “Naming the multipurpose room in his honor is a fitting tribute to his extraordinary service and enduring legacy.”

A reception will be held on Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. with a ceremony at 10 a.m. The events will be hosted at the Callahan Center, 535 Union Ave.
