Framingham Defeats Xaverian 100-77

The Framingham High boys swim team opened the season with a win. Flyers Matt Peck and Cole Bassett both won 2 individual events.

The Framingham High boys swim team opened their season with a victory over Xaverian this week.

The Flyers defeated the private boys high school 100-77.

Last year, the boys swim team under head coach Ron Perriera, won the MIAA Central/South sectionals, the Bay State Conference title meet, and was undefeated during the regular season.

The Flyers opened the meet Thursday against Xaverian with a win in the 200 medley relay. On the winning relay was Ray Wong, Justin Su, Matt Peck, and Josh Cohen. The Flyers also took third in the relay to take a 10-4 lead in the meet.

The Flyers actually won all three relays in the meet.

In the 200 freestyle relay, swimmers Guilian Santos, Wong, Aidan O’Leary and Cole Bassett touched first. The Flyers also took third in that relay.

In the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, swimmers Santos, Cohen, Bassett and Peck won in 3:38 minutes. Framingham also took second in that relay.

Flyers Bassett and Peck each won two individual events in the meet.

Bassett won the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly events.

In the 200 freestyle, Bassett swam 1:55.34. Framingham’s Santos finished second and Max Olson in fourth to rack up 12 points for the Flyers.

Bassett won the butterfly in 1:02.08 seconds. Flyers David LaFontain finished second and Ben Herzberg fourth.

Peck won both the sprint event and the 100 backstroke for Framingham.

Peck swam the the 50 freestyle in 22.75 seconds. Framingham’s Wong finished second with Justin Lu, a freshman, finishing fourth.

Peck completed the backstroke in 59.20 seconds. Cohen finished second for Framingham.

Senior Santos won the 100 freestyle for Framingham in 54.88 seconds. Framingham also took second with Wong and fourth with Alison Cruz.

The Flyers swept the distance event. O’Leary won the 500 freestyle in 5:45.50 minutes. Framingham’s Nick Hulsman finished second with Lu third.

In the 200 individual medley event, the Flyers finished second, third, and fourth to rack up 9 points. Nick Hulsman was second, followed by O’Leary and Cohen.

Framingham finished second, third, and fourth in the breaststroke event also, with Cole Geiser having the best time for Framingham.

The Flyers first home meet of the season is against the Red Hawks of Natick on Friday, January 8.
