Framingham Man Gets Probation In MA Pro-Israel Rally Shooting

The Framingham man will avoid trial and his case will be dismissed in September should he meet the conditions of his probation.

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham man, and pro-Israel demonstrator, who shot a person in Newton during an altercation in September 2024 was given probation in the case.

Scott Hayes, 48, of Framingham, has been placed on one-year pretrial probation, from the date of the incident, with mandatory conditions following the non-fatal shooting.

Caleb Gannon tackled the pro-Israel demonstrator during a rally in Newton in September. Hayes’s firearm went off during the altercation and Gannon was shot in the stomach.

At a hearing on June 4 in Newton District Court, Hayes was placed on pretrial probation through Sept. 13, 2025, with the following conditions:

  • Continued suspension of License to Carry during the pretrial probation period
  • Must complete an appropriate online course, which is mutually agreed upon, addressing civil discourse
  • Stay away from and have no contact (direct or indirect) with the victim, his family or their residence
  • Seek and apply for employment, including completing at least three work searches each week

Additionally, Hayes is not permitted to be present in the City of Newton during the pretrial probation period with the following exceptions:

  • To attend medical appointments or for emergency medical treatment
  • To attend services at houses of worship
  • To drive through the City of Newton en route to other destinations

If Hayes abides by the probationary conditions his case will be dismissed in September. Should Hayes violate the conditions, his case will be scheduled for trial.
