Framingham Planning Board Member Who Passed Away Honored
This Planning Board member died at age 42.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—The public is invited to a ceremony Saturday, Sept. 22, at from 2-4 p.m. at Cushing Memorial Park to honor former Framingham Planning Board member Stephanie Mercandetti who passed away at 42 on Jan. 14.
"In her short life she had a tremendous impact on the lives she touched and the strategic planning and economic development initiatives she championed," said the announcement.
Mercandetti was first elected to the Framingham Planning Board in 2012 as a write in candidate, and won re-election and also served as the board’s chair. She had worked as the Economic Development and Grants Officer for Walpole and was The Economic Development Director in the Town of Medway at the time of her death.

Earlier in her career she worked for Governor Michael Dukakis and Senator David Magnani.
"In each role she was greatly respected for her knowledge, professionalism and the ability to bring people together," said the announcement. "She played a significant role in simplifying and expediting the planning and permitting process in Framingham while balancing neighborhood concerns and creating favorable outcomes."

For many years Stephanie volunteered for the Boston Marathon and enjoyed her creative hobby designing jewelry. She took frequent walks at Cushing Park.
“As part of this ceremony an inscribed bench and beautiful maple tree will be dedicated in her honor. We ask you to join us as we celebrate and remember Stephanie Mercandetti in this park she loved, where her memory will be shared with all who pass through,” said Bob Berman, Chairman of the Stephanie Mercandetti Memorial Committee, in a statement. “I am also proud to announce that a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to accept donations for a new Stephanie Mercandetti Scholarship Fund."
The program includes remarks by Governor Michael Dukakis, Senate President Karen Spilka, Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer, Committee Chair Bob Berman, Barbara St. Andre (on behalf of the Town of Medway), State Representative Jack Lewis, Joan Rastani and members of Stephanie’s family.
Following the ceremony all are invited to enjoy food and beverages prepared by culinary students at Keefe Regional Technical School (Keefe Tech).
