Framingham Recycling Stickers To Double in 2016
The recycling center fee has not increased in decades. The increase will raise about $67,000 for the Town of Framingham.

If you use the recycling center in the Town of Framingham, expect to pay twice as much for a sticker next year as this year.
Framingham Selectmen voted to increase the price of a Recycling Center sticker from $10 to $20 in 2016 on Tuesday night.
For as long as the Recycling Center has been in operation, the sticker fee for a Framingham resident has remained constant without any increase, said Dan Nau, the Town’s director of highway and solid waste management, in a memo to Selectmen.

The Department of Public Work’s Sanitation Division has operated the Recycling Center at 255 Mt Wayte Avenue for more than 20 years.
Most of the materials collected at the Recycling Center are hauled to processing locations throughout the region and recycled into new products at a reduced cost compared to using raw materials, explained Nau.

The cost/return on recycled materials varies depending on market trends and the prices fluctuate regularly, said Nau.
In recent years, the return price for most recycling commodities has steady decreased without any sign of relief, said Nau.
As the operation continues to advance and grow in use, subsequently does the need for maintenance of the facility along with the ability to compete with the volatile costs to process and haul materials.
Selectmen felt in order to continue providing the expected quality of service to residents, the sticker fee needed to increase.
Based on past sticker sales, this $10 increase in the price of the sticker would generate about $67,000 for the Town of Framingham.
With the increase in sticker price for calendar year 2016, the Town will continue to offer residents the ability to dispose of excess waste, recycling, tv’s, computers, sofa’ s, bulky items (metal, tires, propane tanks, etc.) freon items (refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.) and yard waste (brush and leaves) at the Recycling Center.
