"This important restoration is set to preserve one of Framingham’s most historically significant landmarks," officials said.

The Tomb House was originally built in 1885. The building, which is located along Grove Street, has suffered from general wear in tear over the years, officials said.

“The Tomb House is a cornerstone of Edgell Grove Cemetery’s history, and its preservation is a testament to our community’s commitment to honoring our past. Thanks to the support of the Community Preservation Act, we can ensure that this beloved structure remains a lasting part of Framingham’s heritage,” said Cemetery Trustees Chair Dennis Cardiff.

During construction, residents and visitors to the cemetery should expect to see fencing, equipment, and personnel working around the Tomb House, though city officials said contractors have "committed to minimizing disruptions."

That includes during funerals, when work will be paused. Access to burial sites won't be obstructed.

The Edgell Grove Cemetery will remain open during its regular hours throughout the renovation.
