Framingham's McDonald Wins B.A.A Invitational Mile

The Framingham duo of Andrew Harrod and Mike McDonald captured the first place team trophy for the Flyers in Saturday's race.

Framingham High junior Mike McDonald won the Boston Athletic Association’s Invitational Mile for male high school students on Saturday, April 18.

And, the Framingham duo of Andrew Harrod and McDonald captured the first place team trophy for the Flyers in Saturday’s race.

“Framingham swept the boys titles today at the BAA Mile in Boston, both the individual and team,” said boys track coach Chris Collins. “McDonald led the way in a definitive win by 3 seconds over his rival from Brookline, to set up the individual and team championship, barely edging out Newton for the team crown.”

The B.A.A, invites two male high school runners from each of the eight communities the Boston Marathon travels through to participate in the invitational, the weekend before the historic marathon.

McDonald won the mile race in a time of 4:41.

The finish line for the race is the same one runners will cross Monday in the 119th Boston Marathon.

Harrod finished eighth overall, with a time of 4:55.7.

Framingham did not fare as well in the 1000-meter run for middle school students.

Sameer Akhtar finished 12th and Pedro Andino finished 14th out of a filed of 16.
