McAuliffe Charter School Holds Lottery For Incoming 6th Graders

There were 272 applicants for 140 seats in grade 6, for the 2016-17 school year at the Framingham-based public

FRAMINGHAM, MA - MetroWest families gathered at the Christa McAuliffe Charter School Wednesday night for the annual admissions lottery.

McAuliffe is a public charter school, which means there is no tuition to attend the school, however, admission is determined via an annual lottery.

Jill Schindler of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce was the neutral party who conducted the school’s lottery.

The school accepted 140 sixth grade students out of 272 applicants for the 2016-17 school year.

Those not selected at the lottery will be placed on a waitlist.

Throughout Massachusetts, there are 34,000 students on wait lists for charter schools due to a state-imposed limit on the number of students who can attend a charter school.
