MetroWest Commission Book Club Begins June 19 With Focus On DIversity
The group is called READ, which stands for Reading for Equity, Accountability and Diversity. It intends to meet every two to three months
FRAMINGHAM, MA - The MetroWest Commission on the Status of Women and the Athena Council - its little sister organization - will host the first meeting of its new book club which focuses on diversity and equity on June 19 to coincide with Juneteenth, the federal holiday which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.
The group is called MetroWest READ (Reading for Equity, Accountability and Diversity). The aim of this new venture is to engage community leaders, legislators and constituents of all backgrounds and ages in a literary exploration of the many identities, experiences and challenges of the people who make up our diverse region and to have conversations about how we can be of greater support to one another given these realities.
The first book club meeting, scheduled to coincide with the Juneteenth holiday on June 19, will discuss Ralph Ellison’s final novel, "Juneteenth" and Massachusetts resident and author Kaitlyn Greenidge’s new book entitled "Libertie: A Novel."
