Panthers Defeat Rams 2-1

The Plymouth State field hockey team scored one goal in each half and took 23 shots en route to a 2-1 victory over Framingham State in Little East Conference action Saturday afternoon in Framingham.

With the win the Panthers improve to 4-1 (2-0 LEC) and the Rams slip to 0-5 (0-2 LEC).

The Panthers struck first when junior Nicole Burgess sent a onetime pass from sophomore Tyler Pelletier into the back of the net early in the first half.

The Panthers added a valuable insurance goal with under five minutes to go in regulation when junior Rosalie Edmonds ripped a shot off a rebound from sophomore Lily Davis past the Rams goalie.

The Rams got on the board in the final minute when sophomore Amie Sousa found the back of the net after a scramble in front of the goal. Junior Sharon Sears was credited with an assist on the score. The Rams were unable to generate another quality chance after the late score.

The Panthers outshot the Rams 23-to-5 and attempted 14 penalty corners to the Rams 2.

Senior Rosemary Talbot made 12 saves in net for the Rams, while sophomore Alivia Bates made 1 save in 90 minutes for the Panthers.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Eastern Connecticut State in a Little East matchup slated for a noon start.
