“The Department has grown and the state and federal requirements have changed dramatically,” said Framingham Public Schools Chief Operating Officer Ed Gotgart, in a press release published on the district’s website. “We provide meals for over 6,000 students daily and those meals must conform to the new dietary guidelines issued by the state and federal governments.”

The Department will now search for a Director of Food Services Operations to take on the culinary side of the program and the supervision of all food service staff, said Gotgart.

“We have a very strong program, but it can be even stronger with this new organization,” said Gotgart

“Our summer program alone provides almost 60,000 meals to 23 sites across the area, so we see a growing need for our Food Services Department to be able to respond to the needs of the schools as well as to the broader community. This reorganization will allow us to do just that,” said Gotgart.

The District has “taken on several initiatives to strengthen the Department such as a very active internship program with students from Framingham State University and the John Stockard Institute. We also need to continue developing supplemental sources of revenue given that the program is fully self-sustaining,” said Gotgart.
