SLIDESHOW: Flyers Defeat Wildcats 4-2; Advance to Quarterfinals

The #3-seeded Framingham boys hockey team will battle #6 Marshfield on Saturday night, March 5. The Flyers, with the win, are 15-3-5.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - The Framingham High boys hockey team exploded for 3 goals in the span of 4 minutes in the second period to top Weymouth 4-2, in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 South hockey tournament Wednesday night at Loring Arena.

Win the victory, the team's 15th this season, the #3-seeded Flyers advance to the quarterfinals of the Division 1 South tournament against #6-seeded Marshfield. The puck will drop at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5 in Brockton.

The Flyers now have a record of 15-3-5, under head coach Paul Speer.

The loss ended the Wildcats season at 9-9-3. Weymouth was the 14th seed in the MIAA tourney.

The Flyers started out with several early shots on net, before Weymouth began to turn the tide.

At 4:42 of the first period Weymouth won a face-off to the left of Flyer goaltender Owen Parker back to the point with the Weymouth defensemen scoring off the far post to put the Wildcats up 1-0.

Parker made several big first period saves to keep it a 1-goal game.

The first period ended 1-0 Weymouth.

The Flyers picked up the offense in the middle period, breaking the ice at 5:23 of the period when Colton Chassie took a loose puck from a blocked shot by Jamie Brigham, broke away from the Wildcat defense and sniped a wrist shot inside the top left post under the crossbar to tie the game.

The Flyers weren’t done.

Just a minute later defenseman Christian Seariac’s patience with the puck found an open Scott Swennes who wristed a top shelf snipe to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.

Then just 3 minutes later at the 1:42 mark the Flyers expanded their lead with a power play goal.

The Flyers established puck possession in the Wildcat zone, moving the puck high in the zone with Austin Bellefeuille and Christian Seariac exchanging passes before Seariac moved the puck to Tyler Anes off the right post. Anes went top shelf and put the Flyers up 3-1 in front of a packed Loring Arena crowd.

The second period ended 3-1 Flyers.

The third period opened with both teams exchanging quality scoring opportunities.

With 8:30 left in the game Weymouth walked off the left wing side boards and scored to close the Flyers lead 3-2.

The Wildcats pulled their goalie with more than a minute left in the game and pressed the Flyers hard.

With 32 seconds left in the game and a face-off to the right of Flyer goalie Owen Parker, Flyer forward Ben Stefanini intercepted a pass between the Weymouth defensemen, fed Scott Swennes who went in for the empty net breakaway goal and a 4-2 Flyer lead.
