The Framingham State University field was alive with energy on Sunday, September 13, with fans cheering, coaches strategizing, and players battling on the field.
This week, the Needham Eagles (6th Grade) and Rockets (7th and 8th grade) travelled to Framingham to face the Flyers.
The grade 7 team was the only one of the three to come away with a victory.
The 7th Grade Flyers were eager to make a statement on the field this week after a tough loss last week.
On Sunday in front of the home crowd, that is exactly what they did.
On their first drive, many Akye Boston runs led to a 13-yard touchdown run by Jamar Williams. Mason Moy’s 2-point kick gave the Flyers an early 8-0 lead.
It looked like the Flyers extended their lead to 14-0 when Akye Boston recovered a Rocket fumble and ran it for a touchdown, but this play was called back due to a penalty.
Needham eventually scored on this drive and tied the game.
This tie didn’t last for long, as Framingham’s Dante Marino punched the ball into the end zone on a 5-yard run.
Framingham’s Richard Boston was making tackles and breaking up passes all over the field and Ricky Santana and Marino also had a lot of great hits of the Flyer defense.
Needham had the ball to begin the second half but didn’t hold it for long.
Robert Viele picked up a Rocket fumble and brought it back to the end zone.
Soon after, Akye Boston returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown and Jamar Williams converted the extra point run to make the score 27-8.
The defensive domination didn’t stop there, as Jamar Williams had an interception that allowed Akye Boston to have a 65-yard touchdown run.
Although Needham reached the end zone one more time, the Flyers easily won 33-16.
Next week, Norwood comes to town to take on the Flyers.
Even if you don’t know someone playing, come down to the games at Framingham State University and enjoy the atmosphere of a football game!
